Description

Overview

smoodi is a startup from Harvard innovation labs, aiming at building the first fully-automated smoothie machine for offices which allows employees to create their own custom smoothie blends at any time of the day.

​

Approach

To meet the challenge, there are several things need to be done:

​

1. Digital branding: Build up a fresh and healthy brand image using natural feeling color scheme/texture and logo; create a series of fingerprint fruit illustrations to represent one of smoodi’s goals – customization;

​

2. UX/Web design: Design and build the company’s official website to showcase its product, and communicate the company’s goals and mission to potential clients;

​

3. UX/Touch screen design: Design an interactive touch screen interface prototype for the smoothie machine;

​

4. Digital marketing: Build and promote company’s digital brand image via digital deliverables including website, graphics, and one pager, using Adobe Illustrator/InDesign/XD, Wix, etc.

Problem

As a first phase startup, smoodi’s product, goals, and mission need to be understood and liked by potential investors.

Digital branding and website design

I find freshness and customization the key elements for our brand.

Based on this concept, I chose six theme colors for our brand - strawberry red, pineapple yellow, almond beige, mango orange, berry blue, and kale green, which are also a representation of our highlighted smoothie ingredients.

​

We chose a crayon-like texture for digital elements including our logo to create a natural and fresh feel.

As for the website, I designed the information architecture first, and find the priority for the content that we need to display on the website as follow:

​

Product details, invitation to subscribe, benefits of fresh smoothies, customer reviews, and our team story/founder info.

​

I use the color scheme and consistent background texture for the overall fresh and healthy brand image.

The website is prototyped and made using WiX.

For the machine screen, we want a customizable interactive UI which is very intuitive for most of our target users, who are mainly office professionals.

​

Therefore, I used lots of images and icons, and as less words as I could on all the interfaces.

Based on the concept of customization, we created our fingerprint pineapple as our brand icon, with the fingerprint to represent the uniqueness of each smoothie our target user will create for their own needs and preferences.
